Girl Boy Girl drops a lot of famous names - one of them is Shirley Manson, the lead singer of Garbage, a band that was popular (I think they were popular?) in the '90s-early '00s. "Cherry Lips" is inspired by JT LeRoy's novels. I listened to this album when I was 12 or 13 years old - and now that I know the background of this song, it makes much more sense. I also think that the video has one interesting touch - Shirley Manson has bleach-blond hair. Because she is usually a brunette, I wonder if she deliberately did this to look more like JT LeRoy or more like the "delicate boy" she's singing about.

Arlyn, I completely forgot about this song! But you're right, listening to it now it makes sooo much more sense. I also thought it was ironic that the people were invisible and later on when GirlBoyGirl comes out we find out that Savannah felt invisible until she became JT. Seeing this music video and hearing this song only reinforces just how much of an impact JT had on pop culture in general, beyond the LGBTQ community and culture. Maybe the band's connection to J.T. had something to do with its Wisconsin roots and they felt a connection to another pop culture kid from a rural-ish area?
